SUGN and Nana Churcher Multimedia feed and provide school supplies to over 200 children in Chorkor

In partnership with Nana Churcher Multimedia, Spring-UP Global Network has fed and provided school supplies for the 271 of the Great James Academy and Orphanage in Chorkor. The school supplies included exercise books, school bags, math sets and socks.

SUGN and Nana Churcher Multimedia organized the ‘New Year Party/ Back to School Drive’ on Saturday, 7th January 2023.

Other activities for the day included a mentorship talk, a reading session and a Jollof party.

Responding to the donation, the manager of the orphanage Mr James Lamptey said, “children here need a lot of exposure and mentorship. When they see people like you, they become hopeful and believe they too can be like you.”

Since 2021, SUGN has visited the Great James Academy and Orphanage on four occasions.

Background

In November 2022, Spring-UP Global Network announced a partnership with Nana Churcher Multimedia to provide conducive and secure learning environments by providing school supplies, career guidance and mentorship in selected schools across Ghana, consequently contributing to the achievement of the fourth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal: quality education for all.

Chorkor is a densely populated fishing community in the Greater Accra region with high records of teenage pregnancy and drug abuse, among others. Through the organization of routine mentorship programs and donation of school supplies. Spring-UP Global Network and Nana Churcher Multimedia hope to keep more children in the community in schools.
